As an audiophile, you always search for the best audio gears in your budget. Names like headphones, earbuds, True wireless earbuds aren't new to you but do you know about IEMs? Some people might be familiar with this name, but many people are yet to know that they have another option available in the market for earbuds. In-Ear Monitors. So before reviewing moondrop starfield IEM we must discuss IEM.
What are In-Ear Monitors?
in-Ear monitor or IEM is used by Audio Engineers, Musicians, and audiophiles. Users of IEMs can hear the clearer sound as compared to In-Ear headphones or On-ear headphones because most IEMs come with customized ear tip size that provides the best noise isolation. IEMs are placed inside the ear canal that gives a louder, clear sound. This is the reason Audio engineers and Musicians prefer IEMs instead of earbuds to hear a personal mix of instruments and vocals.

Bottom Line:
I tried to keep things simple while writing my review about moondrop Starfield. Before concluding anything, I must mention that I have considered the product's price while reviewing it, so I suggest you do the same because if you compare them with the high-end IEMs it will be unfair with this entry-level IEM. The build is ok. I Don't feel they are durable. Moondrop Starfield fits awesome. They come with 3 pairs of ear tips so you can choose your best fit. It gives the best isolation from the outside noise. The cable is long enough. The cable is ok but doesn't feel durable. you need to use it carefully. The overall rating for the design, build and fit is 8.5 out of 10.
Now let's move towards the sound. The sound is very good in some areas and not so good in some areas. Mids are excellent, smooth, and natural. As I said, mids are the strongest point and sub-bass is the weakest point of Moondrop starfield. The soundstage and imaging are good. I feel that imaging is not so accurate, but soundstage gets the extra marks it lost in imaging. For Bass lovers, it isn't a great choice but for those who love neutral, natural sound it's great.
The most important thing I shouldn't miss is that it's more for general listening and less for professionals. It's quite clear that musicians and audio engineers, as well as performers, would like to go for more premium products to do the best job. But it's far better than premium earbuds and headphones. I mean if you want to get the most with less money it's always better. but one thing is sure. This is a great alternative for many costly earphones and headphones.
We tested another IEM that is FiiO FD1 IEM. If we compare FiiO FD1 with Moondrop Starfield we must address a few points for a fair comparison. FiiO FD1 costs $59 while moondrop starfield costs $110. Though FiiO FD1 costs less it's poor in performance, design and aesthetics compare to Moondrop starfield. As per my opinion, Starfield is far better than FiiO FD1.
How is the Design and Build Quality of Moondrop Starfield?
Let's see what's in the box first and we will move further. Moondrop Starfield comes with cardboard box packaging that contains a small and round carrying case. The carrying case is small and compact and can be easily kept inside the pocket. In the carrying case, I got some ear tips of different sizes.
Now let's talk about the build. Moondrop Starfield weighs less than 7 ounces. You can imagine how lightweight it is. It has a 10mm dual cavity dynamic driver that gives a frequency response of 10Hz-36000 Hz. Starfield looks amazing. It has a bluish kind of painting with a sparkling design. It has starry sky paint that looks awesome in lights.
Some people complained that this beautiful painting doesn't last long. It wipes out after some days. I think users must avoid the friction between the right and left earbuds. Keep some padding between these 2 buds to avoid friction. The cable is long enough and looks good but I think it is made up of cheaper material so you need to use it cautiously.
While talking about the material quality I shouldn't forget that it is an entry-level IEM with the price of $110. With such a cheaper price we can't expect the premium quality. I liked the look and feel of Moondrop Starfield and the build quality is also not bad if you consider the price. So I will give 8.5 out of 10 for the design, build, and looks.
How is the Sound Performance of Moondrop Starfield?
Soundstage and Imaging: Let's start with the Soundstage and imaging. Moondrop Starfield Has a wider and more open soundstage than its rivals. Especially if you consider the price. It has a very good soundstage and the imaging is also not bad. Though some people said it's not that immersive I don't think so.
Bass: Moondrop starfield has a dual cavity dynamic driver. Some experts say dynamic drivers are good to deliver punchy Bass but this isn't true in the case of Starfield. It doesn't mean they have a terrible Bass response but they are not up to expectations. They are good enough for the general listening purpose but they lack punchy and deep bass. mid bass is just ok but the Sub Bass is very weak. Those who prefer Sub-bass may feel a little disappointed.
Mids: This is the region where it did a fantastic job. Mids are awesome, It's wide, open, and natural. It's not harsh or loud but it's smooth and clean. If you made your opinion by just listening to bass, you are doing injustice. Mids are the strongest area where it shines the most. It is the perfect pair of IEM for mids in entry-level IEMs.
Treble: I am quite surprised that with the Moondrop Starfield I haven't experienced listening fatigue even after a long listening session. All I felt was a relaxing and soothing sound. I was expecting the average treble with superb Bass but here the story is different. Treble extension is fantastic. Though some audiophiles sensed the less energetic treble I feel it has a smooth and relaxing upper range. Yes! There are some limitations in this frequency range but it's completely fair if you consider the price. The only weakness I could find is the missing detail. They are not so precise in this area. But this is not a big deal if you are using them for regular listening.
For overall sound performance, I would like to give 9 out of 10. Great job Moondrop!
