Sennheiser MOMENTUM True Wireless 2 review: Good but doesn't worth

In 2018 SENNHEISER introduced its first true wireless earphone SENNHEISER Momentum. The SENNHEISER Momentum has all the features like Bluetooth 5.0, an IPX4 water-resistant body, and 12 hours of listening time. Of course, there is no doubt about the sound quality when you have a SENNHEISER. But when you see the price tag on any product your mind starts thinking "Is the product worth this price?"
"Is this a value for the money product".

Last year SENNHEISER brought the next edition of Momentum. SENNHEISER Momentum True Wireless 2. After comparing the specifications and design of both buds I concluded that Momentum True Wireless 2 is far better than its predecessor. So let's dive in for the review of Momentum True Wireless 2. There are some reasons I chose the Momentum True Wireless 2 instead of Momentum True Wireless and I want to share those with you.

Bottom Line:

I love Sennheiser because they put the sound first. I am not only talking about the Momentum 2 but all audio gears of Sennheiser deliver an excellent sound signature. Momentum 2 Sennheiser is also not an exception. They produce great sound. A balanced sound signature, not great but good sound reproduction and crisp Vocal. Then what is going wrong? The first point that I didn't like is its price. Yes! They are good but I think they should cut down the price. Battery playtime is better than 1st generation of the momentum but still not that much appreciable.

I would like to get wireless charging in that price range but Momentum 2 gives wired charging. You can't connect Momentum 2 to the 2 devices at the same time. That's also not acceptable when you are paying $200. It's IPX4 rated which is good for workouts. Sennheiser needs to work on EQ for momentum 2.

What I liked the most is customizable control. You can easily customize the control with the help of an app. Another thing that I liked is its great ANC performance. If you are looking for a TWS for great ANC performance nothing is better than the Sennheiser Momentum True wireless 2. It's better than its competitors like Sony and Apple. Sennheiser Momentum True wireless is a good TWS but needs some improvements. overall I will give it 7 out of 10

How is the Design and Build Quality of Momentum True Wireless 2?

Let's start with the build. The original Momentum and Momentum True Wireless 2 look almost identical except for the minor difference in size. Momentum 2 is a little bit smaller. Both the models are made up of plastic that looks and feels premium. Another noticeable difference is that Momentum True Wireless 2 is ergonomically better. That means the 2nd generation fits better and also has better comfort than the original Momentum. They both don't have ear fins. The charging case is also compact and crafted with premium material that looks good and fits well in my pocket.

Now let's go for the fit and comfort. Though I feel comfortable when I tried Momentum True Wireless 2 some people gave it 4 stars out of 5. Momentum True Wireless 2 didn't leave its position while I went jogging. But when I tried them with weight lifting they slightly deviated from their position. I shouldn't forget to tell you that these are IPX4 rated and water-resistant. That means they can sustain themselves with a few drops of water. Please remember that these are water-resistant buds and not waterproof.

Another cool feature is customizable touch control. If you use some features frequently and you want them to work with a single tap but the default setting won't allow you to do it you can change it easily with the help of the App. I frequently use transparency mode so I changed it from double-tap to single-tap. touch controls are highly responsive but sometimes I notice lagging while listening to music. With the phone call, it worked fine. SENNHEISER Momentum True Wireless 2 looks pretty cool. If you are looking for buds that look nice and stylish just go for it.

How is the Sound Performance of Momentum True Wireless 2?

SENNHEISER has used bespoke dynamic drivers of 7mm size and having a frequency response 5Hz to 21000 Hz. Maybe these kinds of drivers aren't best for sound reproduction. They do their job well. The frequency range of Momentum True Wireless 2 is perfect to handle all kinds of music. Normally I listen to music with 40 to 50% volume. When I go to the gym and try to lift weight I increase the volume up to 70 to 80% to boost my mood.

SENNHEISER Momentum True Wireless 2 has good bass but it's not deep nor it's punchy and powerful. Bass is good for average listening. I must tell you that EQ could be better. Though it's not bad. When you have SENNHEISER your expectation goes higher. I compare the sound of Momentum True Wireless 2 with the 1st generation of Momentum True Wireless and I think Momentum True Wireless 2 has a more balanced sound.

Momentum 2 Avoids too much brightness. It focuses on a balanced sound that also gives crisp vocals. You can change the equalizer if you don't like the default setting. That means you must have the Smart control app. Another plus that I must tell you is that Momentum 2 has a perfect seal on the ears that heightens the joy of listening with Momentum 2.

How is the active noise cancellation of Sennheiser MOMENTUM True Wireless 2?

Just one word for the ANC performance of MOMENTUM True Wireless 2. It's awesome!. I have compared MOMENTUM True Wireless 2 with some of its competitors and momentum 2 is the winner. No doubt that passive noise cancellation is also good but the ANC is truly the best.

When ANC mode was on I could still listen to the conversation of 2 persons near me but that was not bothering me at all. When I turned off the ANC mode I could again listen to the outside noise like the noise of traffic on the road, the noise of the car engine, and many other noises. I would like to give 8.5 or 9 out of 10 for the ANC performance of momentum 2 Sennheiser.

How is the microphone?

If you already used any TWS you can imagine the microphone performance. The microphone quality of MOMENTUM True Wireless 2 is good but not the best. When I use MOMENTUM True Wireless 2 in my home I experience crystal clear communication but when I go out of my house, say in a crowded place or sometimes I tried it in the rain and in a little bit windy weather it was giving white noise. This didn't happen every time but sometimes I observed that hissing sound. But the overall microphone is good. I will give 7.5 to 8 out of 10.

How is the Charging and Battery performance of MOMENTUM True Wireless 2?

Many people were happy with the audio performance of the first generation of SENNHEISER Momentum but they said big no for the poor battery performance of the 1st generation. Thanks to the SENNHEISER for the improvement of battery life in the second generation of Momentum.

Though they claimed 4 hrs of listening time with the ANC, Momentum couldn't deliver more than 3.5 hrs. When I tested the same for SENNHEISER Momentum 2 and it took almost 5 hours with the ANC on. Though they claimed 7hrs of battery life with the ANC on. I tested with 60-70% volume.

With the charging case, they claimed 21 hrs of battery life but I didn't check it. With the ANC off I got 6 hrs of battery playtime. I appreciate the improvement in the battery performance of Momentum 2 but still, they are not winning the race. Its competitors like Sony and Apple are slightly ahead in this department. Sennheiser Momentum 2 doesn't have wireless charging. If you want a TWS with wireless charging Apple AirPods pro should be your first choice if you ask my opinion. Momentum 2 has C-type charging.

How is the Connectivity of MOMENTUM True Wireless 2?

Momentum 2 by Sennheiser has the latest Bluetooth technology. Bluetooth 5.1 with SBC, APTx, and AAC codec support. I didn't find any latency issues while playing videos on platforms like Amazon Prime, Netflix, and Youtube. It doesn't bother me when I connect with the source but the Connection isn't that strong when your source is too far.

I suggest that you don't put your source at more distance while using it. A con which I shouldn't miss to tell you is it doesn't connect to the 2 devices at a time. First, you have to disconnect the first connected device then you can connect with the new one. It also has an Autoplay/pause feature that makes your life a little bit easy. it pauses the music when you take the bud out and resumes it when taking it in.
