Soundpeats TrueFree plus review

Soundpeats TrueFree plus review

Last Updated: July 14, 2023

Recently I reviewed the first soundpeats true wireless earbuds Soundpeats Sonic. They are one of the best earbuds I have ever reviewed for $50. Today we are going to review another true wireless from SoundPeats. truefree plus true wireless earbuds.

Can you guess the price? it's just $30. If you want to cut the price, Then instead of SoundPeats Sonic, these can be a good bet. We have many TWS earbuds already reviewed with the same price tag. Our recently reviewed Tozo T9 also costs $30. So I couldn't stop them to compare with each other.

Please note that the Soundpeats trufree Plus is an updated version of the old truefree plus. Instead of 5.0 Bluetooth, you get 5.3 Bluetooth with the updated truefree Plus. Do they update from the older version or, it's just hype? Let’s go for Soundpeats truefree plus review.

Pros:

  • price
  • 5.3 Bluetooth
  • Improved battery life
  • comfort

Cons:

  • No IPX rating
  • Micro USB Charging
  • Call quality
  • No button for volume control

Who should get SoundPeats truefree Plus?

  • If you don't want to spend more than $30 for decent calling and balanced Sound, these can be a good choice
  • Soundpeats truefree plus is a good choice for indoor use

Bottom Line:

The True wireless earbuds market has fierce competition. I reviewed dozens of cheaper wireless earbuds and found that you shouldn't expect much about the build quality and call quality.

SoundPeats truefree plus true wireless earbuds fall under the same category. They are decent for indoor use. Makers improved them in some areas like battery backup and updated Bluetooth version from 5.0 to 5.3 which improves connectivity.

battery backup is also drastically improved compared to the older version. but if you compare them with the competition, they are still lagging in some areas like IP rating and not-so-loud sound. call quality is decent for indoor use only. it could be better for outdoors too. overall, I would rate SoundPeats truefree Plus 7.5 out of 10.

How is the Design and Build Quality of TrueFree Plus?

While checking design, build or Sound quality, I always keep in mind the price I am paying. When you spend $100 or $200 or more you need everything perfect, but for $25-$30, compromise comes obviously.

SoundPeats Truefree Plus has many build and design flaws but let's start with good things. Earbuds are lightweight and look cool. The shape of earbuds provides a good seal against external noise.

Soundpeats truefree Plus doesn't have active noise cancellation, so you need to rely on passive noise cancellation and it does the job well. Touch controls are nice to operate and don't require much effort to press them.

Operating the earbuds is simple. Turn them on by taking them out of the case and holding the MFB for a second. Turn them off by keeping them in the case and press the MFB for 3 seconds. I will put the table below to explain to you how the button work.

Let's move to the charging case. The charging case is also lightweight with a stylish striped cover which looks cool. It also gives a grip to the handle. The charging case has a Micro USB port at the back side and two LED lights on the front side below the lid. The lid is nice and strong which protects the buds well.

Now let's talk about the cons. SoundPeats is truefree plus don't have a volume button. It means you can't increase or decrease the volume using earbuds which is disappointing. Another bad thing is they don't have an IP rating. Though you can use them for workouts but not in the rain. Tozo T9 comes with the IPX7 rating which also costs $29.

Let’s turn to the good things again and the good thing is that Soundpeats Truefree Plus is extremely comfortable. Surprisingly, it comes with four pairs of earbuds. Small, medium, large, and extra-large. That means you have more options to choose your fit. The charging case has one LED near the charging port, which indicates whether the charging is on or off. Two LED indicators tell about the charging status of both buds.

Overall, SoundPeats Truefree Plus is comfortable, has a snuggly fit, and provides good passive noise cancellation. But at the same time, it has some cons like no buttons to control the volume and no IPX rating which is disappointing. Comparing them with its rival’s tozo t9 is a winner in this department. I would give 7.5 out of 10 for build and design of SoundPeats truePlus true wireless earbuds.

Soundpeats TrueFree plus true wireless earbuds

How is the Sound Performance of TrueFree Plus?

SoundPeats Truefree Plus true wireless earbuds are cheaper. They aren't audiophile-grade audio gears. Casual listeners won't complain about the sound quality. It has decent bass but is not so punchy and deep. They aren't loud. Treble and mids are balanced.

I felt distortion at a higher volume. The soundstage and imaging are ok. Overall they are just ok. Not great. Workout lovers prefer bass-heavy earbuds. And Soundpeats Sonic true wireless earbuds can fulfill your need if you want audio gear from the same brand. Overall, I would rate them 7 out of 10 for the sound quality.

The call quality of SoundPeats isn't the best or bad either. for indoor calling, it does the job well. for outdoors, it's average because of no active noise cancellation. Considering the price, I would say it's decent for calling purposes but if you are seeking crystal clarity in calls, try some other pairs. Honestly, you rarely find crystal-clear call in this price range. So, either stretch your budget and go for Anker Soundcore A3i or ready to compromise.

How is the Connectivity of TrueFree Plus?

The older version of Soundpeats Truefree Plus has 5.0 Bluetooth which wasn't bad but, here in 2023 when Bluetooth 5.4 came out, 5.0 will be considered outdated so the updated version of SoundPeats Truefree Plus has 5.3 Bluetooth.

I didn't face any connectivity issues in my 1000 sq feet home. Sometimes though the connection was unstable when I tried them from one room to another due to walls and that's obvious. Pairing is super easy. Just take the buds out from the charging case and they will pair automatically. Overall, I have no issues with the connectivity.

How is the Charging and Battery performance of TrueFree Plus?

Along with the improved Bluetooth, battery life has also improved significantly. Old version of Soundpeats Truefree Plus could last up to just 3.5-4 hours with a single charge. But the updated version can survive up to 7.5 hours which is good.

Comparing the price, it's awesome.  With the charging case truefree plus gives a total of 56 hours of playtime. LED indicators on the case show the charging status of the case and earbuds.

With this improvement, I was expecting a change in the charging port but they kept them as it is. It has a Micro USB charging port which is disappointing. This type of port takes time for charging.

Many other rivals of Truefree Plus offer C-type charging. Some of them offers wireless charging too. So, I have mixed emotions about the battery life. Thumbs up for the improved battery. Thumbs down for the Micro USB charging port.

The final decision of purchase must take after a fair comparison. That's why I am comparing SoundPeats Truefree Plus true wireless earbuds with the Tozo T9. Both cost $30.

Comparison tables of Tozo T9 and SoundPeats Truefree Plus tell the story but some crucial points like call quality or sound quality isn't mentioned there. I found that SoundPeats TrueFree Plus sounds better than ToZo T9.

They are more balanced and soothing. The call quality of both the true wireless earbuds isn't extraordinary so I can't announce the winner. But if you check other parameters, Tozo T9 is far better than TrueFree Plus. Especially if you see the charging and battery playtime, Tozo T9 overpower SoundPeats TrueFree Plus.
