Bottom Line:
The Turtle Beach Stealth 600 Gen 2 is an excellent gaming headset for casual gamers who don't want to spend a lot of money. While it may not have all the bells and whistles you'd find in more expensive headsets, it still provides decent comfort and sound quality.
The bass may not be as punchy as you'd like, but the 4 EQ presets can do the job well enough. The build quality is what you'd expect for the price - it's completely made of plastic, which makes it lightweight and comfortable to wear during long gaming sessions.
If you're looking for an affordable gaming headset with some basic features, the Turtle Beach Stealth 600 Gen 2 is definitely worth considering.
How is the Design and Build Quality of stealth 600 gen 2?
If you own the 1st generation Stealth 600, the 600 Gen 2 won't be a new design for you. It comes in two color variants Black and white and has a comfortable headband that fits snugly but won't bother you at all.
The earpads have dense cushions and an oval shape that nicely covers your ears and isolates you well from surrounding noise. There is a break in the middle of the earcup that allows it to tilt as per your need.
Moreover, it can also rotate up to some degree. Between the earpads and headphones, you will see an attractive green color on the Xbox version. This green color differentiates the Xbox version from the PS1. It's worth noting that the Stealth 600 Gen 2 is available in two variants; one for Xbox and another for PlayStation.
All the buttons, controls, and input ports are located on the left earcup of the Stealth 600 Gen 2 headset. The LED indicator and USB charging port come first, followed by the power button for turning the headset on and off, the mode button for changing modes, the chat volume dial, and the volume controller dial. While the volume control dial and chat dial have similar designs, you will eventually learn to tell the difference between them.
In terms of comfort, the Stealth Gen 2 headset has a good amount of padding on the headband, making it comfortable for long gaming sessions. The ear pads are also plush and soft, providing a comfortable experience that won't cause discomfort during gaming sessions. While they may not be as comfortable as premium headsets, they are still remarkable in terms of comfort.
Like most gaming headsets, the Stealth 600 Gen 2 has a flip-to-mute mic. While the mic may not look very impressive, it is understandable considering the price of the headset.
The package includes the Stealth 600 Gen 2 headset, a USB C charging cable, a wireless dongle, and some paperwork such as a quick start guide.
Another great feature is that the earpads can be easily removed for cleaning and then reattached. From a build perspective, I found the headphones to be completely made of plastic, which is a good thing since using metal could increase the weight of the headset and negatively impact comfort.
The plastic used is of good quality and even after twisting the headset, there were no breaks. As for durability, I cannot predict its longevity but I believe it will last for a while. In terms of price, I would rate the comfort and build quality of these headphones at 7.5 out of 10.
How is the Sound Performance of stealth 600 gen 2?
The Stealth 600 Gen 2 comes with a 50mm large driver that may not provide the best sound quality. In my experience, it lacks consistency, although you can compensate for this with four EQ presets - signature sound, Bass Boost, Bass+treble boost, and vocal boost - for clearer vocals.
Switching between these EQ presets is easy with just a click of the mode button on the left earcups. Unfortunately, the Stealth 600 Gen 2 may not deliver punchy bass, which is essential in certain scenes. However, its imaging is accurate, so while playing games, you can judge from which direction your enemies are coming. The soundstage is also decent, considering the overall specification and price.
One unique feature that comes with the Stealth 600 Gen 2 is the "superhuman hearing mode." This mode amplifies sounds like the reloading of an enemy's weapon, the sound of footsteps of enemies, and the sound of an enemy's vehicle.
A study conducted over 100 gamers showed that this superhuman mode improved their gaming skills and chances of winning. I also observed a significant change in my gaming experience while playing "Call of Duty."
Overall, I wouldn't say that the Stealth 600 Gen 2 has excellent sound quality, but it manages to deliver sound that feels enjoyable. The inconsistent frequency response and weak bass are some of the cons that may not be acceptable.
How is the Charging and Battery performance of stealth 600 gen 2?
They claimed that the Stealth 600 Gen 2 can last up to 24 hours on a single charge. While I don't find them entirely wrong, it can last up to 22 hours and 15 minutes on a single charge.
They haven't specified how long it takes to charge, but it usually takes around 3-3.5 hours for a full charge. The headset has a USB-C charging port, and just 15 minutes of charging can give you a couple of hours of playtime. The microphone is highly accurate, and the headset also features a flip-to-mute function like any other gaming headset.
Connectivity
Connecting the Stealth 600 Gen 2 headset to your PC is a simple process. To start, connect the wireless dongle to your PC's USB port. Turn on your headset and it will automatically pair with the dongle within a few seconds.
It is important to note that there is no Bluetooth connectivity involved and that you only need a 2.4 GHz wireless dongle. Additionally, it's worth mentioning that the surround sound feature is only available for Xbox.
Turtle Beach Audio Hub
It is a straightforward process to update the firmware through Turtle Beach Audio Hub software. Besides updating the firmware, you can perform other tasks through the app, such as adjusting the mic monitor feature.
This feature enables you to hear your voice when you speak through the mic. Similarly, you can also adjust the tone through the Audio Hub software.
